Choosing a Skid Plate Motorcycle
A skid plate motorcycle is a vital piece of protection for any off-road bike.skid plate motorcycle Whether you ride motocross, enduro or trail riding there is a good chance that at some point during your rides you will experience an impact to the underside of your bike. This could be a rock hitting your engine casings or your frame hitting a log. Obviously these impacts can cause damage that can be costly to repair and even potentially render your bike unusable, so it’s always worth investing in some form of protection.
If you don’t have a skid plate installed on your bike then you are leaving the lower part of your frame and the engine casings extremely vulnerable to damage.skid plate motorcycle Some adventure bikes come with a plastic skid plate as standard but they tend to be quite flimsy and only offer protection from very light impacts. If you are looking for a durable aluminium skid plate then our range of options are an excellent choice.
We manufacture a range of motocross and enduro skid plates from 4mm thick aluminium to suit a number of different bikes. They are CNC cut to ensure a perfect fit for each application and feature a polished finish to prevent glare from the sun. The enduro version of our skid plates also features a couple of laser cut holes for ventilation and is designed to cover the front of the linkage area of the engine so this is protected as well.
When it comes to selecting a skid plate for your bike you will have many options available, the main difference is how much protection they provide and how much weight they add. Some skid plates are modular and allow sections to be removed or replaced as needed, others are a one-piece design that is welded in place. Some are made from steel which is generally heavier than aluminum, however, the advantage of steel is that it is more resilient to impacts and will not corrode as easily as aluminium, but it can also be more expensive.
Other factors to consider when choosing a skid plate include the layout of the mounting points and how easy it is to access the oil tank and other parts on your bike, some feature openings or doors for routine maintenance. Some are available in different finishes including black and other colours to match your bike.
